Mission Beach Walks

Back

A view of South Mission Beach looking out to Dunk Island.  It was the best day we had, other days you could not see Dunk at all.  What do you expect, Tully is just down the road - its the wettest town in Australia I think!

There are allot of signs warning you about the dangers of Cassowaries and also of hitting (in the car) Cassowaries as well.  So it was with a certain amount or concern we found very fresh, droppings, large droppings - perhaps a big Cassowary was close by.  Well it was, we walked along and peered over this log and there it was.  A male with chick in tow.  Quick photo then mayhem broke out as we were spotted - he run and so did we. Fortunately in opposite directions.

Above:  We have strangler figs at work.  Slowly killing the host tree.
The Fan Palm boardwalk is a great walk; a very easy path runs through a Palm forest.
A Cassowary breaks out of the forest.  The tourists rush to a halt and take hundreds of (digital) photos. Close-up of the Lawyer Cane (or waitawhile cane).
The Bicton Hill walk is also quite good, with good views (especially on a good day) of the coastline.

On this occasion we found this magnificent Fungi - boy did it stink!

A reassuring sign at the start of the Kennedy Bay walk.
