The pollinator is Lissopimpla excelsa. The leptochila, like all members of this family are sexual deceptors, that is, they mimic the signals of the female insect (pheromones). The male insect comes along on the trail of the orchid odour not being able to tell the difference, he mates with the flower and thus with time transfers the pollen onto another orchid nearby. |
