We were looking for a different
orchid and got confused as to where we should be searching. So we headed
back to the car to re-orientate ourselves - always on the look-out for any
orchid we spotted these in a clearing on the way.
We had found this species of orchid the previous day in another location. The area we wanted to search had been burnt the week before and almost all was blackened, only a few spots of un-burnt habitat survived - not an orchid in sight. We walked along the fire break road and were surprised that on the other side a few of our quarry had grown on the edge - see our photos of these orchids. While we photographed them, one was pollinated by what seemed to be a Mosquito.
Photographed in far East Victoria.
