Only found on the
Western fringe of Melbourne and is considered rare and endangered in
Victoria. I was lead to this colony in the You Yangs National Park
via a friends GPS data for the spot. After a bit of uphill and down
again, we reached a bike path. At the top of a hill a small fence keeps
bikes out of a rehabilitated Boneseed area, with a fence post in the
middle of a small patch of "Little Dumpies". Somehow they grew (See bottom Photo)
- all the time in constant danger of being mowed down by trail bikes. These did not flower well this year
(2005) in the You Yangs so I feel very lucky to have been able to capture
these images.
In 2006 I have been able to locate and photograph orchids that are growing in my own area - Melton. Only a few plants have been found, among the many rosettes that have been seen this season. Further afield I found a new (to me that is) patch of Little Dumpies in the You Yangs - well away from the original patch and in reasonable safety. We found lots of leaves as well, some left and right of a new track that Parks had made. |
| Details (Vic): Flowering: March to June, mainly April/May Size: Up to 15cm tall, flower 1 to 50mm Position: Grows in grasslands, scrublands and open forests, on well drained soils. Endemic Formerly: Pterostylis truncata |

| A small colony of some
20 flowering plants. These plants were very short consisting mainly
of the flower head, with little stork.
They grow where conditions are right, even if that's right next to a very well used Bike Path, but is that different to normal, most of the orchids I photograph are next to paths!!! |
