Photographed in the Brisbane Ranges National Park and many other places.

Quite a common fellow in the bush with leaves appearing early August and flowers starting early September in some locations.   Can form mass displays in the wild.

Details (Vic):

Flowering:  Flowering September to December, mainly October to November.

Size: Up to 30cm tall,  flower - 1 to 3, to 45mm across.  Colour mauve to purple (occasionally all white).

Position:  Widespread, apart from the Mallee: Grows in open forest, woodland, heathy forest and heathland.  Soils usually well drained.

Endemic, Secure.

Pollination:  Little information is available, however it is thought to occur via bees.  So the bee in the photo left may be a pollinator rather than a chance occurrence.

Colour:  Variation in the colour is quite common, from the deepest purple to the  quite rare white colour form are all possible. The white form can be completely white with no purple or as shown (below, left) with just a hint on the labellum.  The most common form by far is the usual purple form.
