| During one of our many forest
walks last year we found this orchid and dismissed it for just another
parviflora. Our mistake; we realised at home that there was a
different parviflora inland and darn I did not take a photo (moral: always
take insurance shots - you never know what will turn up!). Well no
problem we knew where it grew and it would be easy to go back next year. Well it was, except this year is the year of the unbroken drought (so far!) and not a one were to be found at the location. We were disappointed to say the least. But we had other areas to search for other things that we hoped may be at least in bud, so our trip would not be for nothing. No, nothing was coming. Too early we though, to dry was more likely. Then by the track we saw our first parviflora. It was small and not as full as last year, but at least it was out. The next hour produced a handful more in various stages - 2 were badly eaten. But at least we had them!
Photographed in the Northern Goldfields area. |
