Spiranthes australis - Austral Ladies Tresses

Back

We were on the lookout for an orchid but not this one. We took a new track for us in the ranges to see if we could find them.  After awhile we were about to give up when we saw a man ahead, just wandering - ah ha an orchid hunter for sure!  We caught up and he said he had been sent to find the Ladies Tresses and they should be in this area. Oh yes Ladies Tresses! We kept our eyes open and soon found them, just starting out.  The other hunter was gone, moved on to somewhere else?  But over the next few weeks, we noted numerous footprints around the area, word had spread!

I noticed pink and a dark pink flowers and assumed they were the same, but I've been told they are actually different!  I only photographed the darker ones as I liked the colour best!

Ah well there's always next year!

Photographed in the Brisbane Ranges National Park.
