Photographed near Padthaway on 7th September 2011 Spider orchids A. reticulata and A. calcicola both have clubs on the sepals, the above orchid has osmophores instead. However it shape etc tells me to place it in the reticulata complex of spider orchids. Looking at the spiders that grow in SA as noted by Bates and Jones I cannot classify it to my satisfaction; could it be just a hybrid, but of what? But it's still a lovely looking orchid. |
