This is the Pinnacle Lookout, one of the most popular walking tracks in the Grampians.

Typical of the this area is the trail below, great for walking, some interesting terrain, some small climbs, lots to see and do!

Silent Street , what a name

Boroaka Lookout, gives you a look at the entire valley

A view of Silent Street, the way up to the Pinnacle lookout goes through this narrow 1 meter wide chasm in the rocks.
The top of Chatauqua Peak, looking west along the mountain peaks.  This is a nice walk up from the main camping area.  The Pinnacle is one of the larger peaks in the distance.

This is the Jaws of Death lookout, a short walk in from Reed's lookout on the Mount Victory road, 12 km out from Hall's Gap.
Another out of town walk is the Mount Stapylton Walk.   This walk start at mount Zero, (a good short walk) crosses the large flat rock area (near top of photo) then winds its way around the wooded Amphitheater.  It steep and turns into a rock scramble at the end, but worth it all the same. mt stapylton 1.jpg (58169 bytes)

echidna 1.jpg (44942 bytes)

There's more to the Grampians than walking, there is also lots of native animals as well, a couple of the more numerous are shown here.  These are the Koala and Echidna.Koala's are only active for a few hours a day, so catching one at dusk was a rare sight on the open road.  Normally they sleep most of the day as gum leaves are a poor source of nutrition and don't give Koala's the get up and go of other animals. As for Echidnas they wander around looking for Ants to eat, when they hear you coming (they don't see well) they dig in and hope the spines keep you away!
