CURRENT PROJECT:

Wedge-Tail Eagle Viewing

Living near the "bush" we are always out walking, recently we found an Wedge-Tail Eagles nest

Click on me to see a larger photo.

This is the Eagle chick at a week after hatching, it takes 45 days to incubate the egg.Another 45 days odd, to mature and leave the nest. They stay with their parents for another year before being forced to look after themselves. The nest is rather large, being built with small branches, the top nesting area is at least a meter square in size. The trees are always large Gums, isolated from others so no one can approach with out being noticed by mum & dad.
Will he go away if I stay low, they seem to.

I'm OK no one can get me here, or can they?

The chick is alone for almost the entire day, so he keeps low till they return.  But they do slowly grow-up and get bigger and go from there white to adult plumage, but they still keep low!
Then one day they move, really move and don't just look at you,and low and behold there almost full grown, and are they big!.  We will visit again but our Eagle chick will be gone from the nest and learning the tough facts of life.
Fianally they moved, they do look magnificant do'nt they!

Did you take me doing a job in that last photo!
