| This is a smaller snow meadow at the
beginning of Native Cat Creek that had not, in recent times, been grazed
by cattle. The first set of photos show a bog in decline as a result of the combined effect of fire and pre and post fire horse damage. Intact sphagnum bogs rarely burn but are damaged when fire passes over them, and bushes growing in them burn. Left alone (without further horse damage) they will gradually recover. However fire damage to bogs opens them up to horse entry and damage. Further pre fire horse damage engenders greater fire damage. |
