Pandani Grove Walk
Mt Field NP

Back

We were at Mt Field National Park to do the walks; big trees and the waterfalls.  These walks we were going to do the next day so given the short amount of time we had available, we chose to do the Pandani Grove Walk at the top of the mountain.  A cold change had passed through a couple days ago and we were aware that Mt Wellington was covered in snow.  So it was of no surprise that when we got the the Ski Village car park where the walk begins, that  the area was covered in snow,  very wet and of course cold.
We chose do do the walk anticlockwise and headed up the access road which forms one leg of the walk.  The old boardwalk was still there but was under 100mm of water which was flowing fast down the hill.  A few hundred metres up the road we saw the sign to really start the walk in the pandani grove.  Walking in the snow is quite an unusual event for us.  As the track was wet, icy and snowy, care had to be exercised.  The walk was interesting made even more so by the weather.  The walk was fun but we were happy to finish  and head back down the mountain were it was drier and warmer.
